Assumptions & Methodology
Capacity per site: Adjustable 1–3 MW (default 2 MW). Average BESS installation capacity per host property.
Adoption rate — pre-signed: Admin-configured percentage of pre-signed hosts expected to contribute to increasing available transmission capacity. Higher because contractual agreements are in place.
Adoption rate — prospective: Admin-configured percentage of prospective sites expected to convert. Lower due to uncertainty.
MW range: Midpoint from adoption rates; bounds are midpoint ± a configurable band (default ±20%). This is a sensitivity bracket, not a statistical confidence interval.
Search radius: Corridors within a configurable radius of the site (default 50 km) are included.
Transmission data: HIFLD (DHS/CISA), ~52K corridor segments. Geometry is approximate (right-of-way, not survey-grade). Data lags infrastructure by 1–2 years.
Site host search area: Weighted Voronoi polygons based on transmission line voltage. Approximates the area searched for prospective network hosts. Not an exact utility boundary.
Prospective sites: Publicly sourced (HIFLD, OSM, NCES). Inclusion does not imply suitability — validation required in Step 2.
